Hello, Mirwaners! I always get asked how many days a week should I work out and my answer is usually something like “it depends on a bunch of factors.” As Apfau said, there are 2 kinds of people with their different training routine.

As a beginner, he recommends a 3 day full body routine. Full body routines can also be useful for people with limited time to work out during the week since you can train each body part multiple times per week while only spending a total of 3 days in the gym.

As a intermediate and advanced lifter, he recommends either a 4 day or 5 day routine. It really comes down to your schedule and personal preference. He personally does the 4 day routine because he enjoys it the most and don’t want to be in the gym more than that. You could do a 6 day push/pull/legs routine as well if you’re relatively advanced and really love training.

Ultimately, all of these routines have one major thing in common. They train each muscle multiple times per week. Beyond that, any of these routines will get you what you put into it. If you’re focusing on compound lifts,  progressive overload, training with intensity, and have your diet/recovery on point, you will make progress. It’s not about how many days you spend in the gym but what you do with your time in the gym. Most importantly, you should be realistic and choose a routine that you will be able to stick to and enjoy. He rather sees someone consistently stick to a 3 day routine than try to follow a 4-5 day routine but skip workouts every week.
